Of All the Craziest of God's Plans

Afterwards, I kicked the air in front of my head, the leaves failed to serve as a censor so...
So many times in my life do people stare with those judgmental eyes of theirs upon whatever I have on. It would shake my confidence and I would try to dress differently. When I do, though, those judgmental eyes still won't get off me. That's a lesson one needs to learn at one time or another. No matter how you look, what you do and what you say, you can't make everyone happy. So people would judge you, stare at you, whisper about you behind their hands, sneer at you or even laugh at you. Don't let that keep you from being who you are. I should know, I'm a pretty judgmental person myself. Ask my sister, she was the one who pointed it out to me. Haha. We're people, judging is our sports, how we amuse ourselves when we've got nothing else. Nothing wrong with judging, really, so long as you know when to let your object know of your ever-so-important of opinions and when to just keep it to yourself. Funny, really, how the person who judges most often doesn't want to be judged the most. Suppose, he/she knows exactly what kind of judgment should befall upon him/her.

It's safe to say by this point that 2013 is quite a curious year, indeed. First of all, let us not forget the March snow, followed by the long overdue spring - which might as well be non-existent. And now...well, now there's this strange phenomenon in summer where the temperature just down right drops to below 10ºC all week. Great. Never thought I would ever associate summer with trenchcoats. But sometimes you have no choice but to bow down to necessity. But that's fine since, either my feet are magic or these shoes are, whenever the weather is piping hot, my feet can't fit into them and only during sweater weather do they snuggle up real nice inside. These should be the shoes to complete my Japanese school girl look - may wear it again sometime. I know this slingback doesn't appear a lot on the blog but it's practically my partner in crime. I've had it since junior high and it has been a signature item of mine - my friends would recognise it in my photos and say, "Oh! That Italy bag!" I still wear to class a lot since it's real roomy and practical. Long live slingbacks.

Mix It Up a Notch: Black Polkadot Skirt

The best clothing pieces are found in flea markets, am I right? Like the only other polkadot skirt that I own, this one was also snatched from a flea market in Halle. It is mega comfortable though it was rather loose when I first bought it. I took it in a little while back, though, and have loved how well it fits me now. Just like its navy double, this piece is also highly versatile. And the form is such a classic. It always gives an elegant yet casual touch to an otherwise anything but outfit. Keep an eye out for more stylings of this skirt.

Some Hearts are Just Lucky

A few days ago, the internet in my house went down and both my roommate and I were frustated. But in the absence of social networking sites and all those thingamajigs, I got to get in touch with my other passions, i.e. crafts and fictional writing. I almost finished a birthday present for Firu and continued a long forgotten story that I wrote around 2-3 years ago. It was strange, how, in the absence of connection with the outside world, I could find a connection with myself again. The fact that my best friends are easier to reach now more than ever - despite the fact that one of them is in Osaka right now - helps incredibly to remember who I was and why I loved myself. Nothing wrong with loving yourself, recommended even - everything in moderation, of course. I used to hate myself in so many ways: I hated the fact that I was fat, that I wear glasses, that I'm the opposite of graceful. I used to walk looking at my feet, not trusting them enough to look up. I recited all my flaws to myself like the lyrics to my favourite songs. Funny, what a little affection can do. I am naturally a very insecure person. But knowing how many people care for me, I believe in myself more and more and cracked open my shell. As if for the first time, I sang to the world, "Here I am!"

There's a saying that goes, "Fashion fades, style is eternal." By that principle, it should be quite all right not to buy a certain sartorial piece right away and wait for the season to be over to buy it and save it for a rainy day - you know, if you actually like it. The first time I saw Alexa Chung wearing this bombshell of a gem, I was instantly smitten. By that time, though, this dress was no longer for sale. I searched high and low but was unable to track it down. However, not too long ago I managed to find three for sale at my favourite online thrift store. I picked the one in my size with minimal cost and obtained one. Yippie! It is very comfortable and I adore the material. I love how the waist is free and, instead, the lining was a little above it. They way Alexa styles it just won't leave me be, though. Definitely pondering whether I should go ahead and purchase this cardigan as well.

June in Overview

Excited about...
Firu's birthday! Which is next week and I can't get any happier. I'm making a present for him right now. Hopefully, when it's done, I can put it up on the blog for all to see - but not before Firu himself does, of course. Also, I'm excited about summer vacation! But, of course, the painful finals beforehand. I've got to do my best.

Currently reading...
When God Was a Rabbit, a novel. Which I think is a tremendous read. I've read the first half so far but it's been an exciting ride thus far. Though the main characters were children - for the first half anyway - the story isn't as innocent. The layers of the story are just really intriguing. This is my kind of story.

Currently watching...
進撃の巨人 (Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan). An incredible and adrenaline-pumping Japanese animation. It is a series based on a manga. So far, the anime itself has around 12 episodes. Every episode asks a question. Firu introduced it to me but my sister got me hooked. Turns out my best friends also watch/read it. All these mysteries got my head spinning.

Loving to listen...
This awesome indie band Lacrosse from Stockholm. Their sound resonates with the fresh forestry in summer and every childhood memory a kid should have. Their music keeps reminding me of summer camp days - though I've never really had one myself. I can't get their songs out of my head. Especially No More Lovesongs  and Sunshiner.

Thinking about...
Summer! My brain is all jacked up on summer and summer vacation. Planning on doing awesome things this summer, probably whilst earning some cash. Also, there will be a lot of crafting this summer. Well, if not a lot, at least one. So cannot wait for freedom already. Also thinking about going back to my life-long passion: drawing and such. Summer, summer, summer, summer!

Descendant of the Season

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
― F. Scott FitzgeraldThe Great Gatsby

As opposed to the gloomy and tranquil winter, summer always echoes with a certain boom and brings people to the street. Summertime has always been one of the most fleeting moments of the year. Mostly, because I always end up planning lots of things and life flies by just like that. It is also always so festive and calls for celebration. For starters, most of my loved ones have birthdays in summer - my stepmom, sister, brother, good friends, Firu, my bestfriend Gina, etc. Summer is also Firu and I's anniversary. Summer is my country's independent day. In fact, today's the anniversary of my hometown, Jakarta! Oh, God, there are just too many reasons to be happy! Being a kid with overactive imagination and energetic physique, summer suits me better than any other seasons - though I was born in and am very much in love with autumn. I can't help it, the blinding sun and the soothing wind makes it so comfortable outside. The world suddenly becomes a huge, roofless home. Since I've got all my assignments done, I have plenty of time for crafts. First off, I'm making (yes, making) yet another birthday present for my beloved. Afterwards, I do wish to start knitting some scarves for the both of us. Hopefully, they'll turn out awesome this time! Woohoo!

One of the things that got me all psyched about summer is having plenty of opportunities to wear this flower crown. My dream to visit a sunflower field lives on and I seriously wish one day (hopefully, sometime this year) it'll come true. Hehe, don't you think it fits me just right? This has got to be my favourite outfit so far this summer. The crazy patterns on the top, the way it's so baggy and comfy AND the soothing and awesome shades of oranges and cream. The lime green colour of the skirt, its pleated characteristics and the lightness of its fabric. The best part is, the whole ensemble works amazingly with the sunflower crown. Such a summer child! Afterwards, I took off the flower crown and went to class. The outfit instantly felt incomplete. Ah, it felt like wearing a huge sack made out of clouds. All I want to do is snooze wrapped up in it. Though, now, the temperature has become quite blazing that I just want to wear nothing at all. How unfair it is that guys get to do that but girls don't. We feel the same heat, dammit!

Ghosts of Summer Past 2013

Last year, my favourite time of the year was summer. I had so much free time, got a lot of things done, saw a lot of my loved ones and, basically, had a blast! God, I wish summer would come soon and stick around. Summer vacation as well! Earlier this year, I made a summer wish to-do list - which basically consists of things I wish I could get to do this summer. Fingers crossed that I actually get to do them and share the moment with my loved ones. I'm not going home this summer, though - huge bummer, I know. What's worse, my best friend Uli is going to Japan this year and I can't go º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚ Anyway, it's so much fun to see these pictures - one minute I had long hair, the next I barely had any. God, I miss having long hair. Fingers crossed on that too. Aa! Beaches and barbeque parties, here I come!
