What's Keeping You From Achieving Your Goals?

We've all been there, right? Times when we're not exactly where we want to be in life? And we wonder, what the hell's keeping me from going there. Why couldn't I get there sooner? Or why aren't I there yet? This was an interesting topic/question brought up by Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky. In case you didn't know, last week she asked us to ask ourselves this question and started a link-up project. It's obviously not mandatory but if you want to, you can write up an answer to this question and leave a link on her blog. Personally, I find it interesting and would like to delve into the depths of myself to find the answer.

When I first read the question, I thought long and hard about it. There are various reasons why I'm not yet in the life that I imagined myself having at this age. But here is the main reason: PROCRASTINATION. It's obvious and so common. Man, am I not allowed to feel special in even my own failure anymore? You might think procrastination isn't that bad but it's the worst. Seriously, not only do I leave everything until the last minute, I just end up thinking about doing something over and over again instead of actually doing it. Case in point, as I'm writing this post, I'm thinking of finishing packing, brushing my teeth and going out to take some outfit pics. But, no, instead, I'm writing this post - which is more productive than my usual procrastination. The problem is that I keep thinking I'm going to do one thing but I'm not even moving. Or I just worry too much about what I have to do that I don't even do it. It is definitely holding me back.

And, if you think procrastination only means you put things off until the last minute, you are absolutely wrong! Yes, that's part of procrastinating is all about. When you need to do something, you just put it off until it's almost too late. But it also means that you're too afraid to change your own fate. You just think, "You know what, I'll give it another week/month/year" and, before you know it, you are stuck in whatever shitty life you'd chosen not to let go of. And, trust me, if you're like me, it's not about the benefit of the doubt. Not because you hope it will get better somehow. Mostly, because you're too lazy to make a move. You're just too comfortable in your current situation, because it's the only one you know and you don't want to go to all the troubles of actually pursuing your dreams. Then it's suddenly 50 years later and you realise, "What have I been doing with my life?" Yeah, that's not where I want to be. So here's what I need to do: tackle everything head on and think of the now! Stop thinking that someday something will happen. If you want it to happen, do it now! Dreaming is nice and all but the only way to make it true is to do something about it.

As word-vomit as this looks, it's actually me keeping it short because I'm still not sure if I'm going to change right after. I'm not even sure if I'm brave enough to stop dreaming and start doing. But it definitely got me thinking. Which is why I think you guys should do this too. Even if you're living your dream right now, you should share along your struggles and what held you back. Since this is Elizabeth's project, you should leave the link to your post here. But, if you like, you can also leave it on the comments below because I would love to read your take on this topic. Have fun delving!
